PLANT A ROW FOR THE HUNGRY

The Happy Gardener, Inc. is a proud Bronze Sponsor of Plant a Row for the Hungry. Independent Garden Consultants provide customers, friends, family and organizations with information and supplies to participate in this charitable project. Members of the community plant an extra row of vegetables in their garden and donate the harvest to their local food bank. Garden Consultants receive promotional products such as organic seed packets, garden markers and program information to be used for awareness and participation. We are very proud to announce that 96% of our active THG independent consultants volunteer for and/or have created official PAR campaigns in their communities. Our efforts have helped food banks, community kitchens and food service organizations collect thousands of pounds of fresh produce throughout the country.

Photo - Our Central VA Plant a Row for the Hungry Campaign kicked off 2007 in April when the Chesterfield Berry Farm called us with an offer we couldn't refuse! They would donate 1,000 pounds of strawberries to our Central VA Food Bank to be used for community kitchens and kid's cafes if we could do the harvesting. Our group consisting of community members, young adults and children harvested over 1,200 pounds of fresh strawberries (and enjoyed a few too).
